Technical FAQ & Troubleshooting Guide
What are Akamai Pragma headers and how do I use them?
Akamai Pragma headers are specialized HTTP request headers used to extract diagnostic telemetry directly from Edge servers. Instead of guessing why an asset was cached or blocked, engineers inject commands like Pragma: akamai-x-cache-on to force the Edge node to return X-Cache and X-True-Cache-Key response headers. This tool injects over 25 proprietary Pragma headers automatically to generate its diagnostics.
How do I force bypass the Akamai Cache (TCP_MISS)?
If you are troubleshooting a stale content issue and need to bypass the Akamai CDN edge, you can use our "Force Origin Fetch" toggle. Under the hood, this injects Pragma: no-cache and Cache-Control: no-cache. If the Property Manager configuration permits it, the Edge server will bypass its storage and perform a direct TCP_MISS pull from your Origin server.
How do I decode an Akamai True Cache Key?
The X-True-Cache-Key reveals exactly how Akamai stores your file on disk. A standard key looks like /L/123/4567/1d/origin.example.com/api/data. This breaks down into:
- Protocol: L (HTTP) or S (HTTPS)
- Network Map: Region identifier
- CP Code: The billing and reporting code (e.g., 4567)
- TTL: Time-to-live in cache (e.g., 1d for 1 day, 000 for no-store)
- Origin: The backend server resolving the request
Why did I get a WAF Block / Reference Error?
If your API request returned a 403 Forbidden with a string like Reference #18.x.x.x, your request triggered a rule in Akamai App & API Protector (WAF) or Bot Manager. Our tool extracts this Reference ID and the Akamai-GRN (Global Reference Number) so you can hand it directly to your SecOps team for log correlation in the Akamai Control Center.
